The LOCAL Life team enjoyed a high tide, a low sunset and a lot of laughs recently on the porch of the LOCAL Life Idea House.

The porch features a breathtaking view of Port Royal Sound and was designed for entertaining. It’s tricked out with mobile screens, a gas fireplace, an outdoor television and a Sonos sound system. Candles, container herb gardens and fresh flowers were used to create a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. The yellow décor was inspired by last month’s featured porch.

“When entertaining, we want to maximize time with our guests so we make large-batch drinks, set up a self-serve bar and present prepared foods on pretty trays, giving the food a homemade look,” the hostess said.

Sound design for the porch was especially important because the owners wanted something simple, yet flexible as there might be just one person watching a game on a quiet Sunday afternoon, or up to 15 people listening to a favorite playlist. Custom Audio Video installed a Sunbrite television (maximum brightness and weatherproof) with Apple TV (enables Netflix as well as YouTube TV) and Sonos speakers (sound levels can be controlled with an iPhone app). After all, a porch party isn’t complete without a little Jimmy Buffet in the background.

The food served at the Idea House porch party was prepared by The Retired Pig (aka Michael Riley) at Hilton Head Brewing Company. Guests enjoyed smoked cheddar mac and cheese with pulled pork and seasoned wings with house-made mustard vinegar sauce.
