Quilting clubs

A fabric of friendship

For those with a passion for textiles and the art of quilting, the Palmetto Quilt Guild and the Sea Island Quilters offer a warm welcome. The Palmetto Quilt Guild is dedicated to the education and preservation of quilting, offering its members opportunities to learn more about quilt history, design and preservation. The guild also organizes a judged Quilt Festival every two years, showcasing over 125 quilts. Meetings and workshops are held at Island Lutheran Church on Hilton Head Island and Palmetto Electric Cooperative in Hardeeville. Similarly, the Sea Island Quilters focus on fostering the art of quilting within the Beaufort community, encouraging high standards and increased interest in quilting. Meetings are typically on the third Thursday of each month at the Carteret Street United Methodist Church in downtown Beaufort.

Camera clubs

Shutterbugs unite

Photography enthusiasts have a place in the Lowcountry with clubs like the Camera Club of Hilton Head, the Bluffton Photography Club and the Photography Club of Beaufort. These clubs offer a variety of activities suited for all skill levels, from beginners to seasoned photographers. They provide a platform for community members to share knowledge, enhance their photographic skills and connect with fellow photography enthusiasts through social media groups and club meetings. Check out the Camera Club of Hilton Head’s exhibition from May 13 to July 8 at the Coastal Discovery Museum.

Book clubs

Book lovers are not left out, with clubs like the Tea, Talk and Tales Book Club; The Novel Choice Book Club; Riveting Reads: Fantasy Horror Book Club; Page Turners Book Club; A Classic Conversation Book Club and the Beaufort Book Club. These clubs explore a variety of genres, from horror and fantasy to classic literature, providing a space for discussions, social interaction and the shared love of reading. Local libraries and bookstores are treasure troves of information on book clubs. Many host their own clubs, which are often open to new members. The Lowcountry is home to numerous literary festivals, readings and author signings throughout the year. These events are not only a great way to immerse yourself in the local literary scene but also an opportunity to meet members of different book clubs.

Car clubs

Revving up community spirit

The region is also home to several car clubs, including the Carolina Dreamers Car Club, Lowcountry Muscle Car Club, Lowcountry Oyster & Motorcar Driving Society and the Beaufort Classic Car & Truck Club. These clubs celebrate the automotive culture, offering members opportunities to participate in car shows, cruise-ins and charity events.
