Local Cocktail: The Dolphin Head

Story by Terry Cermak + Photo by Michael Hrizuk

Inspired by the enterprising big city bartenders who created iconic New York-centric cocktails (like the classic Manhattan), LOCAL Life and Rollers Spirits, Wine & Cheese have leaped to the challenge of creating and adapting cocktail recipes to celebrate Lowcountry landmarks, events and founding fathers. This month’s inspiration comes from Dolphin Head, a beautiful recreation area inside of Hilton Head Plantation, because one of the most beautiful spots in the Lowcountry deserves a toast!

The Dolphin Head

Ingredients

1 1/2 ounces botanical gin, such as Bulrush or Hat Trick

1 ounce real sloe gin (like Hayman’s or Plymouth)

1/2 ounce crème de cassis

1/2 ounce strained lemon juice

Directions

Add all ingredients into a mixing glass filled with ice. Stir vigorously for 30 seconds and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Sprinkle a scant pinch of sea salt on top if desired.
