Record-setting effort

What: Pledge the Pink

When it took place: Oct. 12

Where: Fripp Island Resort

Photographer: Fripp Island Resort and Pledge the Pink

Highlights: On Oct. 12, Fripp Island Resort and Pledge the Pink broke the Guinness World Record for the Longest Line of Garden Flamingos with a total number of 3,753 flamingos. The record was attempted in conjunction with Pledge the Pink: a three-day, three-island, 30-mile breast cancer walk that comes to the area every year. Each flamingo in the attempt represented funds raised for 1 mammogram and the 2019 walk raised over $400,000 for breast cancer. The record was confirmed in January.

Pledge the Pink, originally called LoCo Motion, was started in 2011 by Laura Morgan as a small local event aimed at fighting cancer and getting people off the couch. To date, this event has grown to draw 1,500 participants annually from all over the world, raising over half a million dollars
for breast cancer charities in the process.

An evening with Angie

What: Angie Aparo performance

When it took place: Dec. 28

Where: Coligny Theatre

Photographer: Lindsay Cranford

Highlights: Grammy Award-winning songwriter Angie Aparo put on a special show over the holidays at one of Hilton Head’s most intimate music venues. Aparo has a long list of accomplishments as a professional musician, writing hit songs and working with some of the
biggest names in the music business.

Next time you are looking for something interesting to listen to on Spotify, check out Aparo’s acclaimed 2000 album, “The American,” produced by Matt Serletic (Matchbox Twenty, Collective Soul, Cher). You probably already know the words to his original song “Cry,” made popular by Faith Hill (Angie’s version is better, in our opinion). Tim McGraw fans will recognize the song “Free Man,” another Aparo original on this ambitious 12-track effort. The real star of the show here though is the infectious second
track, “Spaceship,” Aparo’s radio hit.
