Kitchen with mixed countertops

Room of the month: Mixed and matched

A combination of quartz, quartzite and marble results in a dream kitchen come true in Hilton Head Plantation.

Kitchen countertops with dramatic pattern
Colors can dramatically impact a room, so be sure to choose the right colors for your space. To make a room seem larger, opt for light colors. For a cozier feel, dark is the way to go. Patterned material in a honed finish is easier to maintain. And as is the case of the hood or the island in this kitchen, dramatic patterns help highlight portions of the room.

While granite is a popular countertop choice in kitchens, mixing and matching different materials and stones can give the most popular room in your home even more personality and punch.

This Hilton Head Plantation kitchen renovation completed by Distinctive Granite and Marble pulled out all the stops. Master stone crafters worked in tandem with skilled technicians to create the most intricate surfaces, angles and edge details.

It features Negresco quartzite leathered with an eased-edge perimeter on the island, a coffee bar of semiprecious white quartz with an eased edge and full-height Bianco Dolomiti marble backsplashes with a custom mitered hood design and a window sill.

Custom designs are made possible with a Bimatech computer numerically controlled machine, which allows for the most intricate custom designs to come to life with precision and excellence. The marble-wrapped hood was a dream come true for the homeowner and a new request for the team to conquer.

“It was fun to see someone challenge us with wrapping the hood in stone,” said Distinctive’s Courtney Jansen. “It’s not something you see every day, so seeing it come together so beautifully is very satisfying.”
