Schools, daycares, the Cross Island Parkway and many businesses were closed as locals scrambled to find shovels, ice scrapers and heavy winter clothing. About 4 1/2 inches of snow accumulated, making it the biggest snowstorm the area has seen since 5 inches fell during the Christmas storm of 1989. Photographer Thomas Love of TR Media World braved the frigid conditions to capture these slick photos. Find more online at www.trmediaworld.com.
