“The only constant in the technology industry is change.” – Marc Benioff
Much of this special holiday issue is dedicated to technology. Our lives are impacted by it on a daily basis, even when we don’t realize it. Technology helps save time, energy and space in our minds!
I will be the first to admit, I am no tech whiz. But in the age of ever-evolving technology, I try to embrace the new tools, gadgets and apps available. Directions are not my thing. I would be lost without the Google Maps app. And, boy do I love Alexa! She came into our home long before she became the “it” gadget. She is perfect for playing music, adding items to my grocery list, and the occasional “I love you.” I just love to hear how she responds.
Technology has impacted the publishing world, too. It was very different back in the early days of my publishing career. Pages were sketched out and after all of the pages were completed by hand, we would package them up and send them off to the printer by airplane or through the mail. Today, everything is digital and instantaneous. Each page is created on the computer, proofed and approved digitally, and uploaded to our printer’s website to be turned into the print magazine you hold in your hands.
As much as we hope you love the printed LOCAL Life magazine, our website is taking on a life of its own and goes even deeper on stories including video. LocalLifeSC.com will bring you new features, recipes, story updates and fresh content that celebrate what makes the Lowcountry so special. Be sure to check out our behind-the-scenes videos from some of this month’s photo shoots and other online exclusives at LocalLifeSC.com.
In this issue, in addition to a lot of stories about different technologies, there are interesting features for the non-techie. One of my favorites of this issue is our holiday fashion shoot. Special thanks to Jay Wiendl, Chris Bracken and the team at Sonesta Resort for being such fantastic hosts! And as always, I highly recommend all of the recipes, especially the candy cane martini. We hope you will enjoy this December holiday issue in the company of family, good friends and fine food.
May your holiday season be filled with prosperity and happiness. From our family to yours, happy holidays!
Hold the Phone, Or Not
Lori’s favorite gadget at the moment? Apple AirPods. To adjust the volume, change the song, make a call, or even get directions, just double-tap to activate Siri. Just 15 minutes in the case gives you 3 hours of listening time. $160. “They’re amazing! I can listen to music while doing chores without the cord getting in the way and I now have an excuse when people catch me talking to myself!”
