A taste of what’s ahead
The Lowcountry dining scene is serving up plenty of news this summer. Beloved establishments are preparing for a return, new restaurants are getting ready to open their doors, and local favorites continue to evolve alongside the communities they serve. Here’s a taste of what’s coming soon and what’s making headlines around the region this month.
Coming Soon

The Chocolate Tree
507 Carteret Street, Beaufort
One of Beaufort’s most beloved sweet shops is preparing for a long-awaited return. The Chocolate Tree, a downtown fixture since 1980, is expected to reopen this fall after closing unexpectedly last year. Renowned for its handmade tiger paws, English toffee, chocolate turtles, peanut brittle and other confectionery favorites, the shop has delighted generations of locals and visitors alike. After ownership matters within the founding family were resolved, founder Pat Green and her son, chef and chocolatier Tim Green, began work to bring the business back to life. In addition to updated equipment and a refreshed interior, plans include reviving popular traditions such as candy-making classes and all-you-can-eat nights. While some changes are in store, the time-honored recipes that made The Chocolate Tree a Lowcountry favorite will remain exactly the same.

Good Soul Southern Kitchen
70 Marshland Road, Hilton Head Island
A new restaurant is preparing to bring Southern comfort and hospitality to Marshland Road. Good Soul Southern Kitchen plans to open in the former Roastfish & Cornbread building, giving the location a fresh chapter while honoring its community roots. Details remain limited, but anticipation is already building among residents eager to see the space return to life. Additional information, including menu offerings and an opening date, is expected in the coming months.
Lowcountry Restaurant News and Industry Updates

Remembering Chuck Hyatt
The Hilton Head Island dining community is mourning the loss of Chuck Hyatt, founder of Harold’s Diner and the larger-than-life personality behind one of the island’s most recognizable restaurants. For more than two decades, Hyatt helped shape Harold’s into a local institution known for its quirky signs, sarcastic humor and “Food with Attitude” philosophy. Though visitors often mistakenly called him “Harold,” Hyatt’s presence was woven into every aspect of the diner, from the decor and menu to the playful banter that became part of the experience. Friends and staff remember him for his quick wit, unmistakable personality and ability to make people laugh. His legacy lives on through the restaurant and the loyal customers who made Harold’s a beloved Hilton Head tradition.

Happy hour on the water
Outside Brands is offering a new way to toast summer with Happy Hour Cruises aboard the Ohana. The adults-only excursions depart from Shelter Cove Harbour on Wednesday and Thursday evenings through mid-August, taking guests on a 90-minute cruise through Hilton Head Island’s waterways. Along the way, passengers can enjoy scenic views, possible dolphin sightings, a complimentary welcome drink and a selection of charcuterie. Additional beverages are available for purchase, making the cruises an appealing option for date nights, girls’ nights out or a relaxing evening on the water.

Radici earns Italian hospitality distinction
Radici Italian Chophouse in Bluffton has earned the prestigious Marchio Ospitalità Italiana, also known as the Italian Hospitality Seal, becoming the only restaurant in South Carolina to currently hold the designation. Awarded by the Italian government and Italian Chambers of Commerce Abroad, the certification recognizes restaurants that meet rigorous standards for authenticity. Evaluators review everything from imported ingredients and wine selections to culinary training and adherence to traditional Italian cooking methods. The distinction reinforces Radici’s commitment to delivering a genuine Italian dining experience.

Southern Coney expands offerings
Southern Coney & Breakfast has expanded its footprint with a new retail section designed for customers on the go. The addition features grab-and-go salads, pastries, sweet tea, pies and other take-home favorites, along with milkshakes, flavored Red Bull infusions and specialty beverages. The new space gives customers a convenient option for picking up beach-day provisions, grabbing a quick meal or browsing while waiting for a table.
Try These: Heroes, hoagies and subs that deliver big flavor.

A local legend
Lincoln & South Brewing Company’s Mr. Lincoln Hero blurs the line between cheesesteak and smash burger in the best possible way. Double CAB smash patties, caramelized onions, house cheese, pickles, lettuce, tomato, mayo and red wine vinaigrette are stacked on an Amoroso’s roll for a sandwich that’s every bit as bold as its namesake.

Philly favorite
A Hilton Head staple for decades, Plantation Cafe & Deli continues to win over cheesesteak lovers with its signature Philly. Thinly sliced steak, grilled peppers, onions, mushrooms, American cheese, banana peppers and Italian dressing create a classic combination that’s stood the test of time.

Chicago-style indulgence
SliderBar’s Wagyu Italian Beef brings a taste of Chicago to the Lowcountry. Slow-roasted Wagyu beef, sweet peppers and hot peppers are tucked into a roll for a rich, juicy sandwich that’s worth keeping extra napkins nearby.

An offer you can’t refuse
Gruby’s NY Deli pays tribute to Italian deli tradition with The Godfather. Layers of prosciutto, Genoa salami, mortadella, provolone and roasted red peppers deliver big flavor and plenty of New York attitude.

Hoagie heaven
Panini’s on the Waterfront keeps things simple with its Chicken Cheese Steak Hoagie. Loaded with chicken, onions, tomatoes and melted mozzarella, it’s a satisfying lunch best enjoyed with a waterfront view.

Comfort on a roll
Giuseppi’s Pizza & Pasta proves that some classics never go out of style. Its Meatball Parmesan features hearty meatballs smothered in marinara and topped with a trio of cheeses before being baked to bubbly perfection.

Distillery favorite
The Philly Cheesesteak at Daufuskie Island Distillery sticks to the essentials: hot steak, melted cheese and an authentic Amoroso roll. Sometimes that’s all you need.

Loaded up
Fat Baby’s Pizza & Subs lives up to its name with the Fat Baby, a towering combination of ham, capicola, roast beef, Genoa salami, turkey, Swiss and provolone, finished with fresh vegetables, oil and vinegar and house-made horseradish sauce.

The Cure
Sister Sister Deli’s aptly named creation layers pistachio mortadella, Genoa salami, soppressata, provolone, marinated sweet peppers, pickled red onion and garlic aioli on an Auspicious hoagie roll. It’s the kind of sandwich that quickly becomes a craving.
