This Mural Wallpaper Transforms a Bedroom Into a Work of Art

In a Californian retreat curated by J. Banks Design, this bedroom interior echoes the scenic view for walls that wow.

Like a fresco from Renaissance Italy, the walls of this Carmel Valley master bedroom transform the second home of a Lowcountry resident into a work of art.

Look closely at the bend of a tree branch or the haze of a distant sky, and it becomes difficult to believe the scene is wallpaper. To Sharon Cleland, executive interior designer at J. Banks Design, that level of craftsmanship takes the space from ordinary to enchanting.

“The mural wallpaper elevates a room far more than regular paint or a geometric wallpaper,” she says.

Overlooking the picturesque Carmel Valley landscape, the master bedroom mirrors the beauty of the outdoors. The mural wallpaper appears almost hand- painted across the walls, its tree-lined scenery blending with the view beyond the windows.

The sweeping landscape complements the room’s otherwise understated furnishings, which were selected in a matching palette to maintain a cohesive and natural look. Paired with the sweeping valley views beyond the windows, the walls are a living masterpiece.

“The walls become the artwork,” Cleland says.
