Lauren Singer

ER nurse at Beaufort Memorial

Where are you going? I’m going to John Bayley Clothier to pick up a shirt for my husband.

What are you wearing? Quiet Storm Surf Shop. I like a flowy style, and this dress is nice and breezy.

How would you describe your style? I would say I’m more on the minimalist side, but I like pops of color here and there.

Who says you can’t wear white after Labor Day?

Labor Day is almost here, and if you’re one to follow fashion traditions, then you know you’re not supposed to wear white after the holiday weekend. In the 1950s, not wearing white after Labor Day was a firm rule among the wealthy, who regarded it as a symbol of refinement. But as with most things in fashion, rules are meant to be broken. In the 1920s, fashion icon Coco Chanel revolutionized the industry by keeping white as a permanent staple in her wardrobe, regardless of the season. And today, many modern fashion elites follow this trend by wearing white all year. Here are four looks from local stores and boutiques that embrace white as a staple color.

New collection at Spartina 449

The newest collection is out: Hunting Island. An unspoiled, Lowcountry treasure can be found off the southern coast of South Carolina in Beaufort County. Called Hunting Island because it was a 19th-century hunting preserve, visitors now take in the island’s wildlife through scopes of binoculars and cameras. What keeps us inspired is the state park’s five miles of sandy beaches, marsh, maritime forest, land and marine wildlife saltwater lagoon and a historic lighthouse that make this island the epitome of a Lowcountry paradise.
