Elegant Office Design Ideas: A His-and-Hers Workspace That Finds Perfect Balance

Collectibles and a custom rug marry his-and-her offices for a house united

Marriage doesn’t have to mean compromise. For long-time clients, interior design by Finch & Co., Bets Miller and Jennifer Sfreddo transformed an awkward in-between space into a stunning conjoining seating area that links his-and-her offices. Antique treasures and meaningful additions blend into a setting that celebrates two distinct styles in perfect harmony.

Starting with the couple’s shared admiration for classic interior design, the Finch & Co. team leaned into elegant vintage for the common room, then allowed each partner’s personality to shine in their separate studios. A custom Patterson Flynn abaca rug the clients fell in love with became the anchor, joined by a vintage set of Gracie wallpaper panels sourced specifically for the space. The thoughtful curation also reflects their lifestyle, with family-friendly furnishings ready for the arrival of a new puppy.

Where this transitional space could have muddled husband and wife’s interests, it instead embraces the contrast, acting as a bridge between their offices. On one side, the original 1920s carved marble fireplace and delicate floral wallpaper panels nod to the wife’s preference for serene elegance, accented by metallic touches and pale blue ceramic vases. On the other, the husband’s office brings bold lacquered walls, rich opulent blues and industrial-style iron doors. While the approach is more modern, elements like the marble coffee table and sculptural lighting echo a timeless sophistication that unites both ends.

His and her office spaces at home - elegant

The midnight blue velvet of the curved sofa links visually to the husband’s office while offering a midcentury silhouette that feels fresh. Softly patterned throw pillows bridge to the wife’s softer style, making the piece an unexpected mediator in the space. Curved around the coffee table and paired with sculptural chairs, it invites conversation in the room’s center.

A vintage set of Gracie wallpaper panels and the home’s original 1920s marble fireplace set the tone for the shared seating area between his-and-her offices. Layered with a custom Patterson Flynn abaca rug, sculptural chairs, and soft metallic accents, the space bridges two distinct styles with grace and symmetry.
