Laundry Room with Navy Blue cabinets and double washer and dryer

Stylish Utility: A Laundry Room in Palmetto Bluff That Blends Function with Flair

Tucked behind the primary suite, this bright and beautiful laundry room in Palmetto Bluff is anything but an afterthought

Who says you can’t sometimes keep the most beautiful part of a home to yourself? Set at the rear of the primary bedroom of this Palmetto Bluff home, past the sweeping Calcatta Abezo counters of the primary bath and just beyond the massive walk-in closet, this laundry room could have been nothing more than a quietly functional space to get whites whiter and brights brighter.

Instead, Front Light Building Company dialed up the saturation, creating a pop of color where you’d least expect it. Painted in a color they call May River Blue, the Litchfield frameless cabinets and the shade on the Hinkley Somerset pendant pop against the Tilebar Lapaz Daisy Blue backsplash and crisp white of the Kohler Whitehaven farm sink.

As dazzling as it is, this is still a laundry room and Front Light made sure it fulfilled its vital role as the functional space it is.

“This is something we see a lot of requests for is the dual washer and dryer,” said designer Julie Callaway. “Particularly in houses with pools where you have towels constantly circulating in and out. And we chose the tile instead of wallpaper because things can get messy in that space.”

Paired with the bold black window package and slate gray flooring, the dazzling blue manages to excite without overwhelming, creating a beautiful surprise that also keeps the pool party going all summer long.

Loads of style

Want to recreate this clean, coastal-chic space? Here’s what to look for when sourcing materials and finishes:

  • Cabinetry: Litchfield frameless cabinets in navy. The rich hue adds depth and drama while staying serene enough for a laundry space.
  • Sink: Kohler Whitehaven farm sink. The apron front design offers both charm and practicality, perfect for soaking swimsuits or scrubbing muddy paws.
  • Backsplash: Tilebar Lapaz Daisy Blue. This playful floral pattern brings life to the wall and ties in beautifully with the cabinetry color.
  • Pendant light: Hinkley Somerset pendant in a soft gray-blue finish. Its sleek shape and muted tone add a modern coastal touch without overwhelming the space.
  • Window package: Bold black framing adds contrast and dimension, especially striking against the bright walls and patterned tile.
  • Appliances: Dual stacked LG front-load washer and dryer sets; a practical solution for homes with high laundry turnover (especially those with pools).
  • Flooring: Slate gray rectangular tile offers a neutral, grounding element that complements the room’s cooler palette and holds up to heavy use.

Design tip: Choose tile over wallpaper in spaces prone to humidity or splashes. It’s easier to clean and far more durable.
