History
- Founded in 1969 – The first Heritage Classic was played in November 1969 at Harbour Town Golf Links, with Arnold Palmer winning the inaugural event.
- Harbour Town Golf Links Was Designed by Legends – The course was co-designed by Pete Dye and golf legend Jack Nicklaus, becoming one of the most iconic stops on the PGA Tour.
- Signature Red Plaid Jacket – Since the tournament’s early years, the winner has been awarded the red tartan jacket, a nod to Scottish golf traditions.
- Held Annually After The Masters – The RBC Heritage is always played the week after The Masters, making it a favorite “relaxing” stop for many top golfers after Augusta.
- Davis Love III Holds the Record for Most Wins – He has won the tournament five times (1987, 1991, 1992, 1998, and 2003), the most of any golfer in RBC Heritage history.
- It Wasn’t Always Sponsored by RBC – The tournament has had several sponsors over the years, with RBC (Royal Bank of Canada) taking over title sponsorship in 2012.
- The Lighthouse is an Icon – The Harbour Town Lighthouse, which sits just beyond the 18th green, has become one of the most recognizable backdrops in golf.
- Signature Tight Fairways & Small Greens – Unlike many power-hitter-friendly courses, Harbour Town is known for narrow fairways and tiny greens, putting emphasis on precision over distance.
