Sprout Momma Breads

The natural leaven bread is very difficult due to capturing the natural yeast in the air with black raisin water. It usually takes four weeks to get the culture going. Artist Pam White paints water with fire. Her encaustic wax piece is composed of over 30 layers of wax. The piece is fused with a torch and carved with pottery tools to achieve the feel of the ebb and flow of the ocean tide. This 10″ cylindrical lantern was hand made of clay by founding Full Spectrum Studio artist Catherine McDermott. The multi-step process required consistent attention to detail, and careful execution. On this densely colored “Flower and Butterfly Lantern” the negative spaces let the light of a candle shine through after reflecting off the bright white insides. The appliqued flowers and butterflies add depth and interest as they wander over the textured surface. The “Seaweed Forest” wall hanging is 13″ at its longest, and at its widest is 8″. Hand made of clay by Full Spectrum Studio founding artist Catherine McDermott the fish swim in the forest of seaweed. Water bubbles that seem to move, geometric fish that swim, and seaweed that undulates – all are punctuated with colors applied by Cat as underglazes over which a dense clear glaze is added for brilliance and permanence.
